The sisters navigate love, loss, and following their passions against all odds.

ROLES:

Meg March (Female presenting, Early- Mid 20s): The oldest March sister, Meg is sweet and proper. She dreams of falling in love and living the perfect happily ever after. She also loves pretty dresses and luxuries, often fantasizing about living a rich life where she wants for nothing. Being the oldest, she began picking up a motherly role at a young age and, much to her dismay, began working as a governess to support her family.

Jo March (Female presenting, Early- Mid 20s): The second- oldest March sister, Jo dreams of becoming a world-renowned writer. Being a woman feels very unnatural to her, sometimes she wonders if she even wants to be one. She is loud and stubborn, but also very smart- and she knows it. Above all, she loves her sisters more than life itself.

Beth March (Female presenting, Late teens – Early 20s): The third March sister, Beth is kind and empathetic. She is mostly bound to the house due to her anxieties around people and the world. If you were to ask anyone in the family who their favorite sister was, they’d say Beth without hesitation.

Amy March (Female presenting, Late teens- Early 20s): The youngest March sister, Amy strives to be the best parts of each of her sisters. She wants to be the most proper and poised lady possible, like Meg. She tries to be intelligent and use big words like Jo, although she never gets them quite right. She also inherited Jo’s stubbornness and spunk, which results in frequent clashing between the two. At her core, Amy wants to love and be loved- having a heart almost as big as Beth’s.

Marmee (Female presenting, 40s-50s): The matriarch of the March family, Marmee works hard to keep her family together as her husband is gone at war. She is powerful and intelligent.

Aunt March (Female Presenting, 70+): The sisters’ paternal aunt, Aunt March is a rich and sour old lady.

Laurie (Male presenting, Early-Mid 20s): The handsome, charismatic, but slightly awkward neighbor of the Marches. Laurie is being trained to become a proper man but wishes for a life of luxury and no work. Upon first meeting, he begins deeply caring for all the March girls and quickly becomes the sisters’ honorary 5th member.

John Brooks (Male presenting, mid-20s): Laurie’s tutor. Intelligent, kind, and deeply in love with the oldest March sister.

Mr. Lawrence (Male presenting, 60+): Laurie’s grandfather and guardian. A wealthy man. Very uncomfortable with emotions and expressing himself.

Monday, April 20 + Tuesday, April 21, 2026 6:30-9:00 PM Maplewood Barn’s Rehearsal Space | Columbia Mall (Target) Please complete the online audition form here: https://form.jotform.com/maplewoodbarntheatre/little-women-audition “Little Women” follows the four March sisters- Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy- as they experience the joys and difficulties of growing up in Civil War era America.
