Building was on historic register

The Maplewood Barn in south Columbia’s Nifong Park burned to the ground last night as flames reaching 40 to 50 feet high illuminated the night sky and were visible throughout much of the city.

Capt. Eric Hartman of the Columbia Fire Department said the 8 p.m. fire at the historic barn, home to a community theater group, was one of the largest in town in years.
