Summer 2026 Season Opportunity: MBCT Facility Manager

The Facility Manager plays a vital role in supporting the success of our outdoor community theatre by ensuring that the facility, technical equipment, and workspaces are safe, organized, and performance-ready. This position works closely with volunteers and production teams to maintain the Barn’s unique performance environment and uphold its long-standing tradition of quality community theatre.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Equipment Maintenance

• Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot sound, lighting, and related technical equipment used for performances.

• Ensure all technical systems are functional and safe for use throughout the season.

• Coordinate repairs, replacements, and upgrades in collaboration with theatre leadership.

• Maintain an accurate inventory of equipment, tools, and supplies.

Organization & Facility Upkeep

• Keep all backstage areas, tech booth, storage spaces, and work areas clean, organized, and accessible.

• Monitor facility conditions and address general maintenance needs in coordination with the Board of Directors and Parks & Recreation staff.

Volunteer Training & Support

• Assist in training volunteers on sound and lighting equipment.

• Provide hands-on guidance during rehearsals and performances as requested by production staff.

• Reinforce safety procedures and best practices.

Seasonal Facility Coordination

• Assist with opening the Barn prior to the summer season, including equipment setup, inspections, and readiness checks.

• Support coordination of workdays or volunteer efforts to prepare the facility for productions.

• Oversee end-of-season closing procedures, including equipment breakdown, cleaning, storage, and winterization.

• Help ensure the facility is preserved and protected during the off-season.

Collaboration & Communication

• Work closely with directors, stage managers, designers, and board members to support each production’s technical needs.

• Communicate equipment issues, maintenance updates, and facility concerns promptly.

• Participate in planning and coordination meetings as needed.

Qualifications

Previous experience in technical theatre preferred (sound and lighting systems)

Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work effectively with community volunteers of all experience levels.

Basic knowledge of maintenance, tools, and safety practices.

Ability to lift and move equipment and work in an outdoor environment.

Work Environment & Schedule: Seasonal role aligned with the summer production schedule at Maplewood Barn. We need someone who can work evenings and weekends as required, especially when we have rehearsals and shows.

Reports To Maplewood Barn Board of Directors and/or designated Production or Technical Leadership
